AN ADORABLE otter that was orphaned as a baby is "thriving" thanks to the work of the Scottish SPCA's team at Fishcross.

Bo is being cared for at the National Wildlife Rescue Centre, and details of his story were shared by the SSPCA on May 27, to mark World Otter Day.

In a post on its Facebook page, the charity said: "Bo was found alone weighing only 750g. Thanks to our dedicated team at the [centre] he is now thriving.

"This wee otter will be with us for a year before he is returned to the wild for his second chance."

Currently, Bo is one of more than 700 animals receiving rehabilitation at the National Wildlife Rescue Centre, which is getting busier all the time as the weather improves.

But it is costly work, and the centre needs more than £70,000 every month to fully function.

As the Advertiser previously reported, the SSPCA could lose up to 20 per cent of its income this year, after around 1,500 members stopped their monthly donations during the Covid-19 pandemic.
