A MAN brandishing a machete in a Tillicoultry street last Friday night was Tasered by police officers.

The incident took place at Chapelle Crescent just before 6pm on Friday, May 29.

Several units were dispatched to the scene in response, with the male becoming confrontational.

The windscreen of one police van was damaged during the stand-off, though officials confirmed that no one was seriously injured.

Armed police then deployed use of the Taser to deal with the situation, with the suspect taken into custody.

A Police Scotland spokesperson told the Advertiser: "We received a report of a man in possession of a machete in Chapelle Crescent.

"Officers attended, the man was traced and significant damage was caused to a police van.

"A Taser was discharged by specialist firearms officers. The Scottish Ambulance Service attended as a precaution but nobody was seriously injured.

"A 31-year-old man has been arrested and charged. He is due to appear at court on Monday, 1 June, 2020.

"As is standard procedure in these circumstances, the matter will be referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner."
