THE council leader in the Wee County has issued a "thank you" to all local volunteers.

In an open letter, Councillor Ellen Forson sought to highlight the contribution of those who give up their time and offer their skills to help others during Volunteers' Week.

Due to Covid-19 the usual series of events to mark the week are unable to go ahead with the council leader adding that the outbreak has changed everyday life.

In the letter, she said: "This has brought difficult challenges to many people and the work of volunteers has never been more important than it is now.

"The support we, as a council, have received from the incredible army of volunteers in Clackmannanshire has been truly humbling.

"You have stepped up to look after and support not only the most vulnerable people in our community but also our key workers.

"When you volunteer, you are making a commitment to share that most precious of resources – your time – to make life better for those who are in need.

"So I want to say thank you.

"Thank you for your selflessness.

"Thank you for making a difference in your community regardless of whether you are a long-time volunteer or have only recently become involved in the volunteering movement."

She also highlighted that the compassion shown by volunteers during the crisis has been "an inspiration for us all".

The council leader added: "Although it seems like we have been walking a long road, we will get through this current difficult time by working together and with your continued support."
