A BRAZEN thief raided a family home for car keys which he then used to steal a motor.

Police are hunting a man who, in an apparently calculated robbery, calmly entered a couple's home and took only car keys before breaking into and driving off in their silver Seat Arona.

Matthew Baillie, the son of the victims of the theft wrote a post on social media urging people to look out for the stolen vehicle.

He said: "If anyone notices this car parked anywhere please let me know, this was in Afton View, in the Harestanes area of Kirkintilloch.

"This guy went to a lot of effort to break in (which wasn’t caught on camera as he broke in through the back) so definitely wasn’t just an opportunist, he knew what he was doing and we suspect had been watching the house or at least been scoping it out beforehand."

Before driving off, the bungling thief is seen adjusting the driver seat, reversing out of the driveway and into the house gate before making off with the motor.

Baillie said: "On reversing out the drive he crashed it into a metal gate so the back passenger corner of the bumper will be badly damaged."

The car's registration plate reads SM19 HZA.

The car was stolen on Monday, June 1 at around 2.30am.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "We can confirm that around 2.45am on Monday, June 1 2020, police were called to a housebreaking at Afton View, Kirkintilloch, where keys were stolen from the address and a Seat Arona stolen. Nothing else taken. Enquiries are continuing.
