RETRIEVING a cheeseburger meal from the boot of my car is a first for me – but then again we are living in strange times.
My quest to have a decent cheeseburger during lockdown took me to casual dining favourite TGI Fridays who have adapted their whole operation to cater for takeaways – and it is a move that clearly works.
The American-style restaurant is operating a limited menu at the Glasgow Fort and I gave it a test drive for the good people of Glasgow of course. In a new normal world, you have to visit the TGI Fridays website to place your order and request a pick up time.
I played it safe choosing a cheeseburger and fries with a diet coke.
I then turned up at the restaurant close to my slot time – I was shamefully 10 minutes late.
When I arrived, the new drive-thru was well signed to take me to meet with staff in hi-vis vests.
They spoke to me briefly to confirm my order and they told me to park in a dedicated bay and open my boot.
Once parked, I opened my boot and went back into the car until staff placed my order in the boot.
The cheese burger was as good as I can remember. It was tasty, greasy, cheesy and took me back to better times when we could dine in a restaurant.
The fries were cooked to perfection with just the right amount of salt.
My meal was accompanied by various mayonnaise condiments which boost the taste before I washed down the lot with Coke Zero.

TGI Fridays takeaway lived up to expectation. The food was as good as anytime I have dined in the restaurant.
Their social distancing measures put me at ease and reassured me that this diner was taking extra measures to stop the spread of Covid-19.
My only regret is that I didn’t choose a more adventurous burger – but I can always drive thru again.
