THE Wee County's famous Elvis impersonator last week surprised residents at a Stirling care home with a gig on the street.

Johnny Lee Memphis was outside Wallace View Care Home on Monday, June 1, to uplift spirits and entertain the residents in blistering sunshine.

The socially distanced show delighted people at the care home as well as the neighbours with all the classics such as Blue Suede Shoes.

Staff joined in too by dressing up for the hit-song Jailhouse Rock while families living nearby were out dancing in their front gardens.

The care home's residents were also treated to ice cream and wore their summer clothes with hardly a cloud in sight.

Johnny Lee also played some of the upbeat tunes from Elvis Presley's movies and after the gig was given a mention on national TV he started receiving requests from other care homes.

While social distancing remains in place, outdoor shows such as the one last week remain the only way for Johnny to entertain people live from a safe distance and to keep the memory of the King of Rock alive.

Johnny Lee said there was a "great" atmosphere on the day and added: "It was nice to bring a bit joy to people in these dark times."

The show was also streamed online on the Johnny Lee Memphis Facebook page, amassing an impressive 23,000 views and more than 700 comments with people watching from as far as Australia.

The musician, who has been the driving force behind the first-ever Scottish Elvis Festival, had to put plans on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, he is hoping he will be able to deliver small shows outside care homes on request when the weather permits.

He is also eager to be back on the stage once government guidance permits, but has also been enjoying success with online performances.

Johnny Lee added: "I'm thinking of ways to do stuff online at the moment, just to keep the vocals in shape and the Elvis fans who enjoy what I do in the loop."
