A SCARECROW DAY has brought the community together in Dollar during lockdown.

The idea from local resident Roberta Gault proved popular with Dollar Community Development Trust helping to organise a fun competition for May 30.

Rebecca McFarlane, development officer at the trust, said: "It seemed to capture the imagination of the community and we had almost 100 scarecrows throughout the town.

"It was amazing and everyone just got on board with it, it gave people something to do, it gave something for the kids to do and it also encouraged people to walk around the village, chat to people.

"There was a real community spirit with everyone getting out in the sunshine.

"[The weekend just there] should have been the gala, the weekend before should have been open gardens.

"We missed out on those two big community events that would have happened had it not been for lockdown so this was an opportunity to organise something for the community to get involved in that didn't actually involve a big crowd or anything that would go against the restrictions."

Best in Show were a pair of scarecrows in Campbell and Murray on Bridge Street, runners up were Daphne on Strachan Crescent and The Final Clappers on McNabb Street.

The prize for Most Creative went to the Care Crow on Park Place, while the Most Entertaining category was won by Rosie and Jim on Manse Road.

The accolade for Best Name went to Crow Exotic on Murray Place.

Rebecca wanted to say thanks to Roberta for coming up with the idea and everyone who took part on the day.
