AROUND 30 firefighters have worked through the night tackling a blaze at a derelict building.
The alarm was raised at 8.40pm on Thursday about the incident in Duke Street.
Six appliances were sent to the scene to tackle the fire.
There were still six appliances dealing with the incident at 6.30am on Friday morning.
There were no reports of any injuries.
It is not yet known what caused the explosion, but plumes of black smoke could be seen for miles last night.
Local councillor Allan Casey said the fire appeared to have started from a site that houses waste closeby.
He tweeted: "I understand there has been a loud explosion in the Dennistoun area."
Area Commander Roddie Keith said: “This has undoubtedly been a technically challenging and protracted incident, and crews have worked through difficult conditions to contain the fire and prevent further damage or fire spread.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Operations Control, our firefighters and our partners for working to keep the community safe throughout this ongoing incident.”
