STAFF are set to return to two important library centres in the Wee County this week.

Clackmannanshire Council is to re-open the Speirs Centre in Alloa as well as the Ben Cleuch Centre in Tillicoultry.

Both are scheduled to open the doors on Wednesday, July 15, but will be operating a restricted service to ensure safety.

Cllr Graham Lindsay, spokesman for education, said: "We understand that this has been a very difficult time for everyone so the re-opening of the Speirs Centre and the Ben Cleuch Centre for payments and some library services is very welcome.

"Our staff have been working incredibly hard to get these restricted services up and running and I would like to thank them.

"We will continue to follow Scottish Government guidelines and will look to increase the services we are offering gradually over the coming weeks as and when the guidance allows us to do so.

"Our libraries will be opening with fewer staff available, so we would ask for your patience and understanding as some procedures may take slightly longer."

Both centres will be open between 10am and 2pm on weekdays.

People will be able to use payment facilities, the housebound library service, library returns as well as the click and collect service to borrow items, but only by appointment for the latter.

There will also be access to computers for emergency welfare applications.

This is restricted for essential purposes only and booking is necessary.

In line with government guidance, people who are experiencing any Covid-19 symptoms are being asked not to visit.

Anyone who becomes unwell during their visit must inform a member of staff immediately.

To sign up for the click and collect library service, or to book any appointments, call the Speirs Centre on 01259 452 262 or the Ben Cleuch Centre on 01259 452 202 from Wednesday, July 15.
