DONATIONS of food in Dollar are set to go to Tillicoultry due to differences in demand.

Dollar Community Development Trust this month announced that the stock from its community larder has been transferred to a similar initiative in the next town along the Hillfoots.

The move came due to low demand for the community larder service in Dollar and because the recently launched initiative in Tillicoultry, located at the Baptist Church Annexe, was understood to be struggling for donations.

The trust has given thanks to everyone who donated over the past three months and explained it will still collect donations at the local Co-op, with a view of forwarding them to Tillicoultry.

In a social media statement the trust said: "We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who donated to the community larder over the last three months – the generosity of our local community during this difficult time has been fantastic and we were so pleased to be able to offer the larder services to those in need.

"Despite widespread advertising, the numbers using the larder were very low, dropping to only one or two in the last month, which suggested to us that there was limited need for the service in Dollar."

The board at the trust consulted with the town's Covid-19 response group and Dollar Community Council before arriving at the decision.

Dollar Community Development Trust added: "We will continue to collect donations in the Co-op with the view of forwarding them on to Tilly - so please feel free to continue to donate if you wish.

"If we are subsequently contacted by individuals in Dollar we will refer them to Tilly or The Gate in Alloa and support them to get what they need.

"Thank you again for your generosity and for showing that we live in a caring community."

Meanwhile the trust continues with its Stay Connected programme, offering free activities online with some devices available for people to borrow to enable them to join.

There are sessions in yoga, seated pilates, bingo, cooking, gardening, singing and more.

The trust has also been working with the Lunch Club at Home by The Playpen Café, delivering hot meals for the elderly and vulnerable – as recently highlighted in the Advertiser.
