MAJOR disruption to trains in and out of Alloa is expected for the majority of the day following last night’s thunderstorms.

The majority of Scotland was hit by severe thunderstorms and flooding overnight and is now feeling the effects with trains and buses cancelled in many parts.

It came just a week after much of the Hillfoots experienced significant flooding.

ScotRail has issued a warning for trains from Glasgow and Edinburgh to Alloa, stating that “disruption is expected until the end of the day”.

Due to flooding at Polmont, many services are unable to run from Glasgow and Edinburgh to Stirling and Alloa, with a power issue at Dunblane also causing issues on that line.

Major flooding has also been reported at Larbert, meaning trains between Glasgow Queen Street and Alloa are running, if possible, at 20 past the hour.

Trains that do leave, however, will be running at a reduced speed due to water on the tracks.

Anyone wishing to travel by train is advised to check before they leave.

A statement on ScotRail’s website said: “Passengers are advised that there is no guarantee of travel on these affected lines and that they should consider either not travelling or make their own arrangements.”

Meanwhile, Clackmannanshire Council have issued an update on the state of the Wee County's roads.

  • The A91 between Tillicoultry and Muckhart is passable with extreme care.
  • The B913 between Saline and Dollarbeg is currently closed and is expected to remain that way the rest of today.
  • Shavelhaugh Loan is only passable with care due to a large tree on the road.
