A COUPLE who had their first date and got engaged atop Dumyat have completed the set after getting married on the Wee County hill.

Robert and Dawn Forson said fate intervened on their plans as they had originally planned to get married in Inglewood House. But as Covid-19 spread quickly, they decided not to book it.

Then when Robert, who is a pharmacology student from the Wee County, suggested tying the knot on the hills, the couple realised it was a great idea – as long as the weather was kind to them.

Speaking to the Advertiser, Dawn said: "Robert had suggested getting married on Dumyat in a throwaway comment at one point then we did start to consider it more seriously but had been concerned about the weather.

"We had originally chosen Inglewood and had hoped to get married in July but hadn't booked it as we saw Covid-19 spreading.

"Covid-19 meant that we got married in the same location as our first date and where we became engaged. Perhaps it was fate that we got married there too."

Despite the worries such a left-field venue provided, Dawn said the day was fantastic and despite one guest slipping on the way up, everyone who attended was enthusiastic about the location.

In fact, arguably the most enthusiastic guest was the celebrant Lindy Irving who upon hearing the location, set herself a target of climbing Dumyat 30 days in a row.

Dawn, a schoolteacher, said: "Lindy, our celebrant from Aye Do Ceremonies was really enthusiastic and set herself a challenge of climbing Dumyat for 30 days.

"Our photographers Steve and Laurence were also game and met us for a trial run the week before.

"Our guests were quite surprised by our outdoor venue but embraced it as they knew how special Dumyat is to us.

"We had onlookers but they were really distant as our location was off the main path. We didn't mind onlookers as we had that distance so didn't find it intrusive.

"An outdoor wedding was ideal for us as we both love walking and being outdoors. With outdoor weddings you do run the risk of onlookers and have the fear of poor weather.

"We had to agree a back up plan in case we couldn't sign the marriage certificate on the hill but we would have gone ahead regardless of the weather."

Dawn wished to place on record some gratitude to those who attended.

She added: "Thanks to our families and friends for all their help and for making it uphill as well as Lindy, Steve Gauld Photography, Amanda from Silk Wedding Flowers, Debbie Cameron for the cake redesign and Euan Fraser, our piper."
