A BUILDING site manager from the Wee County is celebrating after he received a prestigious industry award from the National Home Building Council (NHBC).

Ian Welsh, who works for CALA Homes (East), has been recognised in the 2020 Pride in the Job Quality Awards for his contribution to creating homes of exceptional quality in the Edinburgh and East Lothian area.

The Sauchie man, who worked on the Waterfront Plaza development in Edinburgh, was one of six CALA Homes (East) site managers whose developments have all been singled out as the top performers in the country.

Speaking about receiving the award, Ian said: “Winning a Pride in the Job award at Waterfront Plaza has given myself and my entire team around me a great sense of satisfaction and pride as this project has been extremely complex and challenging.

“This is without doubt the highlight of my career seeing a young group of managers maturing into a very strong team, during the last year it has been great seeing both sets of managers helping each other out when the other required assistance to achieve the very fast track programme.

“I would like to personally thank all my site team and sub-contractors around me as without their attention to detail and consistency this award would not have been possible.”

The six winners are among 17 CALA site managers to win one of this year’s prestigious NHBC awards with a total of 11,000 site managers across the UK assessed this year.

They will now go through to the next stage of the competition, the Seal of Excellence, the winners of which will be announced later this year.

Now in their 40th year, The Pride in the Job Awards, are one of the highest industry accolades a site manager can receive.
