A CAR was deliberately set on fire in Tillicoultry last night, police believe.

Emergency services were dispatched to Elmwood Avenue at 11.30pm on Tuesday (September 1), following reports of a vehicle on fire.

A fire engine arrived shortly after and extinguished the blaze, while police carried out door-to-door enquiries.

Police Scotland has confirmed to the Advertiser that the incident is now being investigated as a deliberate fire.

A spokesperson said: “Around 11.30pm police received a report of a car on fire in Elmwood Avenue.

“Emergency services attended and the fire is being treated as wilful. Enquiries are ongoing.

“Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting incident number 4040 of September 1.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 11.33pm reports of a car alight.

"Operations Control mobilised one appliance to the scene to extinguish the fire.

"Firefighters left after making the area safe."
