THERE have been plenty of reasons to celebrate at Braehead Golf Club recently with people being recognised for their long service.

Fraser McNeill received recognition from club secretary David Dick on completion of 40 years of service with the green staff.

He came to Braehead in 1980 to work while in his early 20s and has been enjoying his time so much, he never found the need to move on.

When congratulated for all the years of hard work, Fraser said he will continue to enjoy his time at the club for some time.

Peter Cunningham from Stirling was also presented with an award by the club secretary, for being a member for the past 46 years.

He has been actively involved over the decades and in his latter years, Peter has been a regular at many seniors' friendly matches and competitions.

To recognise his achievement, Peter was awarded an honorary lifetime membership of the club.

Meanwhile, the Malcolm Speirs Trophy was played on Wednesday, August 19.

Some excellent scores were recorded with trophies going to Rick Spencer and Val Nuchan.

Results were:

  • 1st – Rick Spencer & Val Buchan 57
  • 2nd - Alan Reed & Duncan Chapman 60

Then on Wednesday, September 2, a rainy day saw 48 people compete for the Stableford Shield.

Despite the conditions some excellent scores were recorded with Danny McCormic, a relatively new member at the Senior Section, taking home the spoils with a score of 45 points.

Results were:

Division 1 (Scratch to 15)

  • 1st Robert Black – 39 points
  • 2nd Jim Kerr – 37 points

Division 2 (16 to 36)

  • 1st Danny McCormick – 45 points
  • 2nd equal – George Chapman – 36 points
  • 2nd equal – George Inkster – 36 points

Congratulations go to Paul Johnston and Jim Kerr who both achieved two magic twos during their rounds.
