A FURTHER 558 coronavirus cases were identified in Scotland over the last 24 hours, the First Minister has announced.
That accounted for 9.5% of all people newly tested yesterday.
Speaking at the Scottish Government’s Covid-19 briefing this afternoon Nicola Sturgeon said 89 people are in hospital, four more than yesterday, and 11 people are in intensive care which was one more than yesterday.
The provisional information showed that 255 cases are in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 119 are in Lothian and 61 are in Lanarkshire. The remaining 123 cases are spread across nine other health boards.
No deaths were reported, but the First Minister warned the body responsible for providing these figures suffered a power outage which may have impacted on their ability to update them.
Sturgeon gave the briefing amid concerns over coronavirus outbreaks at student accommodation across the country.
She told the briefing: “No-one should think or be under the impression that the Covid threat right now is just a university problem.
“This is a risk that all of us need to take seriously.”
The First Minister added that Denmark, Iceland, Slovakia and Curaçao were all added to Scotland’s quarantine list last night.
Anyone entering Scotland from those countries must quarantine for 14 days upon their arrival.
