A WEE COUNTY book club run by a local celebrant will be featured on the BBC later this year.

Interfaith Minister Reverend Lindy Irving's group is set to have one of its meetings filmed for The Big Scottish Book Club tomorrow, Thursday, October 1.

It will then be broadcast on the BBC Scotland channel towards the end of 2020.

Based in Tullibody, Lindy performs and officiates formal ceremonies such as weddings and funerals across Central Scotland.

On her website where she described her job, Lindy said: "I have the best job in the world helping people to celebrate some of life's major milestones."

As part of her work, she set up a club for other celebrants, from which her book club developed several months ago.

She told the Advertiser: "I run Celebrant Training Scotland: we are a group of celebrants trying to better ourselves, and trying to learn more about how we can add more value to what we're doing.

"One of our members – Susan Chown – spotted that the BBC were looking for a book club in Clackmannanshire that might want to feature on The Big Scottish Book Club.

"We have a book club, so I sent an email saying who we are, and it grew from there.

"The book club has been going for about six months.

"It has been great because it encourages us to read books that maybe we wouldn't have.

"We usually get together every four to six weeks, virtually, and we sit and talk."

Hosted by Damian Barr, The Big Scottish Book Club features interviews with a mix of writers and book lovers.
