FEMALE golfers from around the Wee County and beyond raised money for The Gate while playing a competition earlier in the summer.

Alloa Golf Club played host to the Ladies Open tri-am competition in August despite significant restrictions tapering what is usually a great day.

The competition had 25 entries with three ladies per team who all managed to socially distance on the course and in the clubhouse when the competition took place on August 29.

Cathy Ely, one of the organisers of the competition, told the Advertiser it was still an enjoyable day for the club while having the extra element of raising money for a good cause.

She said: "Against all the odds the tri-am was held at Alloa Golf Club. We had 25 entries with three ladies per team, who all managed to socially distance both on the course and in the clubhouse, making use of the facilities and catering at Schawpark View.

"We had the perfect day where the sun shone, the course was in excellent condition and everyone enjoyed themselves.

"The winners were a team from Blairgowrie, second were a team from Alloa and third place a team from Dunblane. Fourth place went to a team from Tillicoultry.

"Under strange conditions we held a raffle with the proceeds coming from £1 of the entry fee and donations on the day, where we managed to raise a total of £125.

"We handed over the cheque to the chair of the Gate Alloa, Evelyn Paterson."
