TILLICOULTRY will suffer the loss of another business on the High Street this week.

The Co-operative Funeralcare is set to close its doors on Thursday October 22, the Advertiser understands.

It is also thought that two members of staff have been made redundant as a result, with customers directed to the nearest Co-op Funeralcare shop in Alloa.

Tillicoultry, Coalsnaughton and Devonside Community Council has expressed concern over the move.

A social media statement said: "The Co-operative Funeral Home in Tillicoultry is closing on October 22 and moving to Alloa Funeralcare.

"It's such a shame that this will result in yet another empty building in Tilly High Street."

Commenters have since expressed concern that many people bought pre-paid plans specifically because a branch was present in town.

However, a Co-operative Funeralcare spokeswoman told the Advertiser existing customers will see no change to their terms and conditions.

She said: "We continually explore opportunities to open new funeral homes, while also regularly reviewing our existing homes.

"As part of this, the decision has been made to close our funeral home in Tillicoultry.

"Families arranging funerals at present will not be impacted in any way and will receive the same high standards of service.

"Likewise, all existing customers who have pre-paid funeral plans will see no change to their existing terms and conditions.

"Once the funeral home has closed, any residents of Tillicoultry who require our assistance can visit us at Co-op Funeralcare in Alloa."

Confirming redundancies, she added: "Two colleagues have been impacted by the closure.

"We have consulted with them directly and via our recognised trade union to provide support on a personal and individual basis and we remain focused on keeping redundancies to a minimum."
