COMMUNITY groups in Clackmannan are gearing up to potentially reinstate coronavirus support services in and around the town, should the need arise.

The Caring & Connected Clackmannan initiative, which originally launched at the height of lockdown, could be returning amid a rising number of Covid-19 cases, having ceased in September.

The partnership project had been spearheaded by Clackmannan Development Trust, the community council, primary school, church, health centre, community policing team and more in the town.

They were assisted by an army of volunteers to deliver 270 welfare phone calls, 105 shopping and delivery runs, 102 fruit and vegetable parcels to low income households and much more.

And the partners are once again calling for volunteers to join their ranks, ahead of what is expected to be a challenging winter period.

In a social media statement, the trust said: “We are carefully monitoring the current Covid situation and are making preparations to be able to reinstate the community services that we offered earlier in lockdown should matters regress further and there is a need within our community.

“The services offered were kindly provided by local volunteers - who gave up their time to help the community in its time of need.

“We are currently seeking more people to help.”

The trust's latest community newsletter also revealed that preparations are underway, “should there be a second lockdown over the winter”.

People who can offer their time to lend a hand can find Clackmannan Development Trust on Facebook where a volunteer form is available.
