THE owner of a derelict house which recently caught fire intends to have the building demolished.

Clackmannanshire Council has confirmed the owner of the property at 48 Moss Road in Tillicoultry has informed them of his plans.

On Tuesday, November 3, a council spokesperson told the Advertiser: "The owner has contacted the council confirming his intention to apply for a Building Warrant to demolish the building."

This comes days after a fire tore through the abandoned property on Friday, October 30, which led to Moss Road being closed for seven hours while emergency services extinguished the blaze.

A police investigation into the cause of that fire remains ongoing.

In August, police pledged to pay the property extra attention following reports that children and teenagers were accessing the building.

The following month, Clackmannanshire Council served a Dangerous Building Notice on Mr Derek Williamson, of Bankhead Farm Cottage in Perth, due to the state of the property.

That notice identified him as the owner of the house, and required him to have a structural engineer assess the building, and cap off all gas and electricity supplies.

The notice required that work to be commenced by September 18, and finished by October 9.

Subsequent correspondence sent to Mr Williamson shows the council did step in and complete some work throughout September.

In a letter dated September 9, the council said: "After inspection, the council's building standards team established that the building is in a unsafe condition and, therefore, in the interests of public safety instructed the boarding up of windows and the erection of safety fencing around the area presenting the danger."

It added that the cost of carrying out that work would be sent to the building's owner.

Following the fire, a spokesperson for Clackmannanshire Council also said:"Our Building Standards team inspected the building yesterday [Monday, November 2].

"The site is secured with Heras fencing.

"The council will monitor the site to ensure that it remains secure."
