A PRISONER who "cost quite a bit of money to the public purse" has had his jail term extended.

Dominic McCann was slapped with a further 30 days consecutive to his current custodial sentence when he appeared for sentencing at Alloa Sheriff Court on Thursday, November 5.

The 28-year-old appeared from HMP Edinburgh via video link.

According to court papers, while at HMP Glenochil, he damaged a cell sink, toilet, table and unit, then flooded the cell on May 28 last year.

The following day, he damaged another cell in a similar manner.

McCann's solicitor, Mr Robertson, said: "This is a matter that cost quite a bit of money to the public purse."

He said that his client felt aggrieved at the time, believing he was being treated differently to other prisoners.

Mr Robertson added that McCann is currently serving a custodial sentence after being convicted of robbery, and his earliest date of liberation is March 22 next year.

Sheriff Craig Harris said: "Over two days you caused £1,660 worth of damage to prison cells.

"It was almost 18 months ago, and you appear to have been making use of rehabilitation services on offer to you."

However, the sheriff noted punishment was still required and extended his sentence by one month.
