DEAD swans have been found double-wrapped in bin bags on a Clackmannanshire riverbank.

The birds were recently discovered along the River Forth as it runs past Cambus, and the matter was reported to police on Tuesday, November 17.

David Hodgson, who lives in that area and has assisted police with their investigation so far, said: "Someone, somewhere must have dumped them in the Forth or the Devon.

"Given the suspicious circumstances, arrangements are being made for the swans to be taken for autopsy to establish a cause of death."

He encouraged anyone with information about what happened to the swans to get in touch with police by calling 101, quoting incident reference 1857/17/11/2020.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "At around 3.10pm on Tuesday, police received a report of two swans being found dead in the River Forth near to where it meets the River Devon in Cambus, Alloa.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident."

Information about the incident can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
