A ROAD traffic operation in the Hillfoots has resulted in action being taken against dozens of motorists.

Police recently completed Operation Kooky, which focussed on the A91 between Menstrie and Tillicoultry as well as surrounding areas.

A total of 631 vehicles were checked during the operation.

That resulted in five reports being submitted to the procurator fiscal.

Those relate to two people driving without insurance, one "joyrider", one careless driver, and one individual who was driving without insurance and while disqualified.

Six conditional offers were also issued as a result of the operation – allowing the motorists to accept a fixed penalty rather than the matter proceeding to court.

Two vehicles had no MOT, one was clocked travelling at 57mph in a 40mph zone, one had no insurance, one had no vehicle registration mark and one had unlawful window tints.

Other action taken by officers included four vehicle uplifts, 25 parking tickets being issued, 26 verbal warnings being issued to speeding drivers and two-vehicle rectification tickets being issued.

Inspector Mark Murphy from Alloa Police Station said officers will continue to keep an eye on the area given concern raised by locals.

He said: “This was a four- day targeted approach which was in response to concerns raised by the local community and focused particularly on the A91 and surrounding areas.

“Members of the public had complained about driver behaviour, including speeding and inconsiderate parking.

“As well as enforcing the law, when necessary, officers also took the opportunity to engage and educate members of the public about driving standards and how to be safe on the roads.

“The operation was welcomed by the vast majority of motorists, as well as the local community, and officers will continue to patrol the area in the coming months.”
