DUNFERMLINE kids have been honoured for the extraordinary things they've been doing to help improve the lives of others.

A total of 50 local children have been recognised in the Dunfermline Junior Hero Awards organised by the Duloch Spiderman.

Dave Roper, aka Spidey, and his friends the Dunfermline Superheroes have received a lot of praise for the fundraising work they have done in the area and have even received their own awards.

But Dave decided it was time that the spotlight was shone on some younger people who have been doing their bit too!

The Duloch Spiderman asked the public via his Facebook page to nominate their junior heroes and share their stories.

"Originally, we were going to have 22 winners as a friend of mine and huge Spidey supporter, Pauline Gear, purchased 22 Christmas bears for me," Dave told the Press.

"I was supposed to narrow it down but after reading through them on the first day, Pauline and I decided to bump it up to 50!

"There were so many deserving kids that had been put forward.

"Pauline went out and bought an additional 28 bears (out of her own money!) and I contacted Mike at Promotional Impressions in Dunfermline to make a Spidey certificate that would be awarded along with the bear."

After finally deciding on the 50 worthy winners, Spidey put on his suit earlier this month and delivered the A3 certificates and teddies in person – which took almost six hours!

Dave added: "There were some really amazing stories and it was a really rewarding day.

"I absolutely loved meeting these fantastic children and acknowledging their achievements."

"When the Dunfermline Superheroes won Fundraiser of the Year in October at the Local Hero Awards we were finalists with two other children, so I knew there was some fantastic things going on and children needed to be recognised.

"It's always great to celebrate positive news and it keeps the fun going!

"A lot of the kids didn't know they had been nominated so when they answered the door to me they were quite surprised!

"It was really nice to see their reactions and let them know that they've made the world a slightly better place.

"Everybody has had a tough year but so many kids have just pulled through and done some fantastic things at the same time!"
