A MAN IS appealing for information on a UK transport company that had depots in Clackmannanshire.

Paul Bruce spent a large part of his childhood travelling across the UK with his late father who worked for Smith of Maddiston, a Scottish transport company based in Falkirk that had a depot in Riccarton, Clackmannan.

The company dissolved in the 1980s when it was bought over by another company, and Paul has been collecting information on it since 2000.

He has collected around 600 photographs of employees from all over the country and has sent appeals to newspapers in an effort to enhance his knowledge of the company.

Paul told the Advertiser: "I have a massive interest in this company because of my late father who worked for them.

"As a child, I'm talking five, six, seven-years-old, I'd be with him all over the UK, driving and learning about that way of life.

"In the 80s the company was no longer trading and when it got to the year 2000, I just suddenly thought where the hell are they? So I've gone back to their roots, how they started.

"This is a 20-year project that I'm still working on."

Paul has spoken to many people who worked for or had family members who worked for the company, including a visit to the former owner's son's house.

He added: "If people have a photo of their father, their grandfather, stood beside a lorry then [it would be] fantastic if they would share that with me."

The collection of photos is purely for a hobby of Paul's and he has no commercial interest in any photographs.
