THE Queensferry Crossing has now reopened to traffic in both directions.

It was closed in the early hours this morning due to a risk of falling ice and traffic has been diverted via the A985 Kincardine Bridge.

The bridge fully reopened to traffic at 10:10am, while the northbound carriage reopened slighly earlier at 09:15am.

Chris Tracey, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “The safety of bridge users comes first and we therefore made the decision to temporarily close the Queensferry Crossing when we identified a risk of falling ice.

“We had already mobilised additional ice patrols in response to the weather forecast and the bridge was closed at 04:00 when staff observed ice falling from the structure.

“The risk has now passed, and it is safe to reopen the bridge. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this closure.”

As a result of the closure there have been long queues on the A985 this morning. This has caused problems in areas such as Rosyth.

Reports say there are temporary traffic lights in Crombie that have been making delays longer.

There have been queues on the M90 between the crossing and Amazon area in Dunfermline.

Other problems on the road this morning long queues at William Street in Dunfermline where there are temporary traffic lights and lights at Crossgates also apprear to be stuck on red causing lots of issues.
