A SINGING star in the making made it to number nine on the iTunes pop chart last week as part of a charity single with Glasgow Philharmonia.

Aaron MacGregor, 11, from Crossgates, sang a solo in the song 'You Can't Stop The Music', which was released to raise money to help provide opportunities for young performers.

He was joined on the recording by Rhienne McAllister, 13, from Dunfermline, who also featured as part of the ensemble from Glasgow Philharmonic Orchestra's Kids Cast.

Both youngsters have been performing with the kids cast for the last couple of years after beating hundreds of children across Scotland in auditions to gain a place in the annual Movies to Musical extravaganza.

But as the coronavirus pandemic halted performances it was decided they could use their talents to hit the charts!

Aaron's mum, Ashley, said: "It's totally lifted all the kids and Aaron even got to do a radio interview.

"We hoped the song would go a little higher but it peaked at number nine in the iTunes pop chart and number 23 in the normal iTunes chart.

"Most importantly, it was something for the kids to look forward to as it's been pretty hard for them not being able to perform.

"Aaron's had a taste of the charts now but it's still his dream to be an actor or working in the West End! But anything in the entertainment industry he would love to do."
