MEMBERS of Sauchie Community Group have launched a brand new weekly online arts and crafts session.

The idea for the free weekly sessions came from co-community manager Laura Turner and her daughter Kate.

Today, February 10, was the first session with a Valentine's Day special, there's also Mother's Day and Easter sessions coming soon.

Laura has been running the toddler group since 2000 and has always loved getting involved with arts and crafts.

After taking some time off from her role due to the death of her son Calum, she returned to the community group last week.

She said: "Myself and my daughter both had a similar idea, she had mentioned it and I sort of [twigged] it and developed it.

"The two of us decided to do something to get me back into the swing of things to keep me busy.

"It's just basic arts and crafts, starting off with Valentine's Day and then Mother's Day and hopefully we'll continue it on a weekly basis."

Laura has been off work since her son Calum was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma last year and has just recently returned to her role.

She was brainstorming with Kate about ideas for the group and the arts and crafts sessions came up.

Laura continued: "Within an hour, after she mentioned it, I developed it and decided how to take it further.

"Kate gave me the push that I needed to get me back into the swing of things again, she planted the seed."

The sessions will be filmed live and are for people off all ages and Laura says they'll be great for parents looking for new activities for the kids.

She added: "With people still in lockdown and kids still off from school, it gives them a wee break and gets them away from schoolwork.

"[Also] it gives the mums something the kids can sit down to and keeps them occupied for a wee while.

"It's just a wee extra thing to give them something to do and pass a wee hour.

"It's for everybody, not just for the kids, they can all do it. It can be quite therapeutic."

The first video will be available to view tomorrow, Thursday, February 11, at 10am on the Sauchie Community Group Facebook page.

Anyone is welcome to join and there is no skillset required.

Every Friday, they will post what materials will be required for the following week's activity.
