Tullibody Civic Centre café opens its doors

Opening for just three hours a day every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the team was thrilled by the response, with enquiries being made about opening up on more days.

Janette McGowan, chair of the Tullibody Community Development Trust, said: " [We were] very busy, very busy. I think we were pleasantly surprised, especially on Friday.

"It was a really wet, dismal day and we thought we'd hardly get anybody, but we were probably as busy as we were on the Wednesday and Thursday.

"We even had people asking if we were open on Saturday so, hopefully, as we build up and learn to manage ourselves we'll be able to open more days.

"Everybody was really complimentary about the food and service.

"If it continues in that vein we'll be able to extend to more days and increase the menu products."

Janette continued: "Loads of folk were saying this is just what we needed: freshly-cooked food on their doorstep – there was loads of good feedback.

"I'm absolutely delighted and grateful."

Drea McLeish, the centre's catering assistant, was equally as delighted with the café's opening week.

She said: "I thought we would be busy but we were really busy, it's really, really positive and encouraging.

"You can't ask for more than that. The community response was great.

"It's a work in progress, everybody's learning by the minute. By the end of the week we were in a routine."

Plans are still moving forward for the takeover of the centre and the first priority has already been identified.

Janette said: "As soon as that happens, we want to get the sports hall roof repaired so as soon as we can open we're ready to do so.

"We're really-really keen to move forward."
