A WEE COUNTY driving instructor who offered free lessons for "sexual favours" has been warned about his attitude to his community-based sentence.

Alastair MacCorquodale, 67, avoided a jail term in 2018 after being convicted of sexually assaulting two female students and sending a message to another looking for sex in return for free lessons.

His three years of supervision is coming to an end soon; however, a sheriff was unimpressed by the latest review of his progress.

Alastair MacCorquodale, of Queen Street, Alva, appeared back in the dock at Alloa Sheriff Court on Thursday, March 11.

Sheriff Craig Harris told him: "I'm concerned about what's in the report. There are questions about your attitude and some hostility towards people undertaking this work with you.

"This sentence was a direct alternative to sending you to prison."

The sheriff pointed out that MacCorquodale was reported to be hostile to staff and had been questioning work he has to do as part of his supervision programme.

He warned the order could be revoked and another sentence imposed, even at this late stage.

He added: "Don't think it's a free run for the next three months. In the next report, I better see that you've done all the work required of you."

MacCorquodale will return to court for that review on June 24.

In July 2018, MacCorquodale was handed a community payback order with three years of supervision, after he was found guilty after trial of three charges.

Between October 1, 2016, and May 30, 2017, on roadways in Clackmannanshire, he sexually assaulted a female by repeatedly touching her on the body with his hand on numerous occasions.

Then, between April 1 and July 1, 2017, within a car, he sexually assaulted a second female by repeatedly touching her on the body with his hand on numerous occasions.

Finally, from October 5 to October 6, 2017, he sent messages to another female – who was heavily pregnant at the time – in which he offered her "fun for free lessons".

During his sentencing, back in July 2018, Sheriff Derek Reekie warned MacCorquodale that he was on the verge of custody for his actions.

At that time, that sheriff also raised concerns about some of the comments made by the accused when initial reports being prepared – noting one remark he described as "highly distasteful".

Sheriff Reekie told him: "It is clear that your overall attitude remains as it was in your evidence."

During one court appearance in 2018, his lawyer said he would no longer be working as a driving instructor.
