A MENSTRIE man was jailed for eight months after being caught with thousands of pounds of cannabis in his bedroom, and hundreds of pounds in notes hidden in a TV unit.

A "systematic" search revealed more than 425grammes of herbal cannabis and in "numerous containers" and nearly 17.5g of active ingredient Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in his bedroom.

The search, on March 7, 2019, also turned up an envelope containing £1480 in cash

Prosecutor Katie Cunningham said: "A Samsung phone was found in the bedroom which contained messages dating back to January 5, 2019, suggesting the accused was involved in the supply of cannabis.

"He was interviewed and confirmed the cannabis was his."

A further search was carried out on June 21 2019, when police found shrink-wrap bags and a vacuum sealer with Allan's fingerprints on them.

Four jars of Tetrahydrocannabinol, £1970 in cash in a TV unit, two empty tubes labelled 'cannabis cigars', empty Chocolate Orange boxes labelled THC, another 134grammes of cannabis, and preparation equipment, were also found.

The court heard the cannabis recovered in the two searches was worth up to £5280.

Allen, 25, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cannabis and Tetrahydrocannabinol at his home in Park Road, Menstrie.

Solicitor Laura Jackson, defending, said: "The offence is a serious one, but it's of some age now.

"He comes from a pro-social family and has a pro-social circle of friends."

Imposing the eight month jail term, Sheriff Richard McFarlane told Allan he had been involved in "very significant" activity.

He said: "I can see no alternative to a custodial sentence."
