PEOPLE looking to saddle up in Clackmannan are being encouraged to take advantage of half-price bike hire over the Easter holidays.

Clackmannan Development Trust (CDT) is offering 50 per cent off for seven-day bike hire from tomorrow, April 1, until Friday, April 16.

Bikes are available to hire from the trust's main office located under 1 Main Street, next to the County Bar.

The trust's Lynsey Hadden, communications and engagement officer, said: "With the demand for cycling going up by 63 per cent during the pandemic, the trust are delighted to help support the demand by offering bike hires.

"Our ongoing commitment to support local people making active travel a part of their daily lives has led us to purchasing a small fleet of bikes, thanks to funding from Cycling Scotland.

"We have since been using them for bikeability programs; and more recently, offered free bike hire to key workers during the first COVID-19 lock-down in 2020."

Indeed, as reported by the Advertiser close to a year ago, the support for key workers was vital with bicycles plugging the gaps where public transport could not.

Scott Bamford, the trust's active travel co-ordinator, also supported those who already owned a bike by offering up his maintenance and repair skills.

In terms of hire opportunities, a range of bikes in various sizes along with two brand-new e-bikes, are available from the CDT.

The discount offer extends to seven-day hires, but three-day weekend hires are also on offer from the main office.

To book, people can contact Scott via clackmannanactivetravel@outlook.com or call 01259 219 473.
