A WEE COUNTY bridal store has been crowned the best in the country.

The Bridal Studio, located in Dollar and owned by Lesley Vaughan, has won the award and Lesley will attend the Prestige Awards presentation ceremony in Edinburgh in August, Covid-19 regulations permitting.

Lesley, who has owned and worked in the store for the past 14 years, says she's absolutely thrilled to have won the award.

She said: "It's kind of lifted my spirits. Over the past year with the pandemic things were quieting off a lot and I then thought to myself, 'Do I really want to carry on?'"

Lesley admits the past year has been "horrendous", adding that she seen her last client on December 20, 2020.

However, Lesley says she really enjoys her job and the bespoke customer service experience she offers.

She continued: "It's been great. I've always said the day that I wake up and I think, 'Oh god, not another bride', I'll shut the door, because I've got to be up for it."

After becoming severely ill, Lesley had to leave her job as a property director for a solicitor in Edinburgh and became self-employed. She initially started doing ball gown hire from home and then a friend mentioned they had a space in Dollar.

From there, Lesley made an overnight decision to go from ball gown hire to a bridal store and has been doing it ever since.

She said: "I'm on my feet all day, if my first client is in at 11am and my next is at 7pm, I'll be there until 7pm.

"It's one of these things where if I didn't want to do it, I wouldn't be doing it. But I love doing it."

Offering a bespoke service means long days and working all kinds of hours, but Lesley is happy to do it for her customers, as they don't always work regular hours.

She continued: "I don't work normal hours. If my first client is 7.30pm, that's when I'm going to open. That really has been my ethos.

"I have clients who are doctors or work with the NHS. They don't work 9am-5pm. I have always said I will endeavour to accommodate anybody at any time.

"I've always ever taken one client, they get the shop to themselves for two hours and it's a very relaxed atmosphere.

"It's a very personal thing and I think that's what people like so that's why I do anytime, seven days a week.

"I do it to suit them, not to suit me."
