A WOMAN is walking 200,000 steps to raise money for a charity in the Wee County.

Louise Russell, founder of Give a Dog a Bone, which has a space in Alloa, is in the middle of the mammoth challenge for Kiltwalk.

The Alloa space, located in the old Liberal Club building on Mar Street, was only open for 12 days before the Covid-19 pandemic forced its closure.

Louise and the team have been working behind the scenes to prepare for its reopening on Tuesday, April 27 and at the time of writing she has completed just under 100,000 steps.

More than 10,000 steps have been completed everyday – except for one day where a Bridgerton binge caused a drop in numbers – but Louise is well on track to reach her target.

She said: "It's a really good way for small charities to raise money because for every £1 donated the Hunter Foundation tops it up with an extra 50p."

Louise continued: "I know only too well how much fundraising has been negatively impacted over the pandemic year – large events have been cancelled, cash donations into our community spaces has stopped and supporters have not been able to fundraise in the way they normally would.

"It's been really difficult in the pandemic year to fundraise."

All money raised will go back into the charity in order to continue providing its vital services.

With the space reopening next week, Louise can't wait for people to start visiting.

She said: "[I'm] really excited, it's been a long slog this past year for everybody and we're hoping everybody realises this is a big, safe space.

"If you haven't already been to see us, please come and see us."

Give a Dog a Bone's Alloa space reopens this coming Tuesday, April 27, from 11am to 3pm.

There will be a Golden Ticket raffle in Alloa with the first prize being £1,000.

They are also looking for donations of new, unwanted and unused items such as perfume box sets, candles and knitted items such as unwanted Christmas or birthday gifts to be sold to help raise money.
