STEVEN GERRARD hopes he will get the chance to share his Premiership title success with Rangers mentor Walter Smith in the future.

The champions will be presented with the top flight trophy following their fixture with Aberdeen on Saturday and are now within 90 minutes of an unbeaten league campaign this term.

Ibrox will be empty for the title party as supporters remain locked out of the stadium and Rangers have urged fans not to congregate in large numbers to celebrate their first league crown in a decade.

Legendary manager Smith will not be present for the ceremony either as he continues his recovery from surgery earlier this year and the 73-year-old will be in the thoughts of many at Ibrox this weekend.

Gerrard has previously spoken of the impact that Smith has had on him during his three years at Rangers as his words and advice have been crucial in helping him transform his side on the park and overhaul the club off it.

Saturday will mark a proud and emotional moment for everyone associated with Rangers and Gerrard will make a concerted effort to share the success with Smith when time and his health allows.

Gerrard said: “Listen, I’ve gone on record many times about how special he is, not just as a manager but as a man.

Unfortunately, he’s been unwell of late and it’s a shame because I would have liked to have had him in the stadium on Saturday and have shared a photograph with him but that time will come.

“It will be a special moment for me because Walter has really gone out of his way for me so the very least I can do is to share that moment with him.

"Sadly, it won’t be this weekend but I’ll make it my business to make sure that I have a picture with Walter Smith, myself and that cup.”
