ALLOA songwriter Jamie Pollock is preparing to unleash his debut EP – with one eye on a return to the stage later this year.

The Life will be released on May 28 through Modern Sky and Run on Records, with a couple shows on the cards down south this autumn.

It has been an arduous road for the former Vida frontman, who has been trying to make his way in the pandemic-afflicted music scene.

But the release of his upcoming EP will be a huge milestone for Jamie and will hopefully be a forerunner for his return to live performances in the near future.

He told the Advertiser: "I'm proud of the fact I've bounced back, got signed to a top indie label, and kept releasing tunes.

"I am excited to get back out and play live again. I've never really been nervous when it comes to performing, but, as it's been so long, there's definitely a strange butterflies feeling about playing in front of a crowd again."

The Life will feature five tracks – including an acoustic version of Vida favourite Fade Away.

Pollock's recent singles Won't Slow Me Down, Free As A Bird and In Away (From The Life) are all also included, along with the unreleased track Sha-La-La.

He said: "The next single is an upbeat number with just me and the acoustic. As pure as they come; smashed it in one take.

"I can imagine that, out of the rest of the singles, it's gonna be a proper crowd pleaser.

"It's coming out on May 28 when the full EP drops, along with an exclusive acoustic bonus track which I'm sure a lot of people will be familiar with."

When asked which his favourite track was, the singer added: "It's never easy to pick a favourite tune of my own, but if I had to pick one I'd say In-Away (From The Life) just due to how different it is to my usual format.

"The fact I wrote it about eight years ago and it has now finally come to life is a great feeling as well."

Lockdown was a harrowing period for most musicians, with performances curbed and income drained.

Some have taken the time to reflect and write, but Jamie has made sure not to put too much pressure on himself.

Instead, he has pursued other hobbies and took his time when it comes to music.

"I've written very little during lockdown," he continued. "I've spent a lot of this new found free-time revisiting things that I used to love doing in my pre-music life, like playing golf and getting back into graphic design as a hobby again.

"Of course, there has been a few tunes that I've written in the meantime that turned out pretty good, thankfully."

Jamie is raring to return to live shows, with the time period between shows only growing.

He is due to play a support slot at a sold-out show with Andrew Cushin in Newcastle on September 11, and will also be performing at the Sound City Festival in Liverpool in early October.

The singer said: "Like I touched on before, it's gonna be special performing in front of a crowd again given that it's been well over a year now since my last gig. When the time's right, bring it on."
