STAFF at Forth Valley College have been recognised for their work at the first-ever staff awards.

The awards were held through an online event and was hosted by BBC Presenter Amy Irons, with entertainment from the Sound Production department and musicians such as Ian Whitfield and The UK Voice contestant Cameron Ledwidge.

More than 70 college staff were nominated across six categories and 26 were shortlisted for their work during the pandemic.

The judging panel was made up of members of the College's Board of Management, College Fellows, and the Forth Valley Student Association President.

The FVC IT Team were awarded Team of the Year for their work in keeping the college running throughout the pandemic and supporting both staff and students.

Hospitality and Salon Services Lecturer Manager was awarded Colleague of the Year after receiving multiple nominations from colleagues citing her support over the difficulties of the past year.

The Hospitality Team took the community award for their outreach work and impact on the community, with their work delivering 1000 free Christmas lunches being highlighted.

College gym staff member Kasia Slapek was given the Health and Wellbeing award for her support for colleagues outwith working hours.

Lecturer Stewart Ritchie's work with student engagement won him the inspiration award and John Dickson took the award for innovation after his work ensuring the maths department maintained innovative ways of assessment while working remotely.

Dr Ken Thomson OBE, Principal of Forth Valley College, said: "Congratulations to all our winners who thoroughly deserve their success after all their tremendous efforts over the last year.

"I personally am very proud of everyone who was nominated as they have all gone above and beyond in their roles to provide support, advice and expertise to their colleagues and peers.

"I have to say that this recognition shows an exceptional level of commitment to their professionalism and role, as our entire workforce has risen seamlessly to the challenges presented to them during the pandemic lockdown and shown that each and every one of them are winners in my book.
