A SMALL-SCALE event marked Armed Forces Day at Clackmannanshire Council last week.

The Armed Forces Day flag was raised at the local authority's Kilncraigs headquarters last Friday, June 25, with Provost Tina Murphy and Lord Lieutenant Johnny Stewart in attendance.

The event was scaled back in a bid to minimise Covid-19 risks.

Provost Murphy said: "We once again raise the Armed Forces Day flag in tribute to all who have served and continue to serve protecting us on these shores and those in many countries across the world wherever there is a need.

"We see that service in our community today where the army is assisting in the roll out of the much needed vaccine to protect us from Covid.

"It is because of Covid that we are once again unable to have anything like our normal event to honour our heroes.

"It is also my last year as forces champion so it is with a heavy heart for me, that the lord lieutenant and I raise the flag.

"Rest assured you are all in our thoughts and prayers for you all and your families to stay safe."

Armed Forces Day was officially marked on Saturday, June 26, with small physical and virtual events right across the country.
