SPEED cameras are to be deployed on the Clackmannanshire Bridge in the coming weeks and months as part of a summer staycation safety campaign.

Safety Cameras Scotland has launched the campaign to influence driver behaviour and will be deploying cameras on the A876 Clackmannanshire Bridge.

The short-term deployments will coincide with major motorsport events due to take place at nearby Knockhill Racing Circuit.

Safety cameras, aiming to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on the roads by encouraging improved driver behaviour, will be deployed on the bridge this weekend, July 10 and 11 – coinciding with the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Knockhill.

The cameras will return over the weekend of August 14 and 15 when the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship is set to take place at the Fife track.

Also over the weekend of October 2 and 3 with the McRae Rally Challenge taking place at Knockhill.

Michael Grant, manager at the East Safety Camera Unit which will be deploying the cameras, said: “Short term deployments allow us to respond to emerging issues or changes in traffic behaviour for a period of one month.

“In this case, it is expected that there will be a significant increase in motorists travelling to and from popular events at Knockhill.

“The short term deployments aim to encourage improved driver behaviour and compliance with the speed limit.

“We urge all drivers to know your limits and stay within them to keep all road users safe.”

The East Safety Camera Unit operates within Police Scotland via a grant from the Scottish Safety Camera Programme.
