IT WAS a busy week for the Ochils Mountain Rescue Team last week as they attended several callouts across the region.

Last Thursday, July 22, the team were called to assist a mountain biker with a leg injury on Mickle Corum in the Ochils.

The following day, Friday, July 23, they attended the John Knox Pulpit area to assist a woman who had fallen.

Ross MacIntyre, OMRT secretary, said: "On Thursday, the team was called out to assist a mountain biker with a serious leg injury on Mickle Corum Hill.

"A team doctor worked with the paramedics from coastguard helicopter rescue 199 from Prestwick to treat the gentleman’s injuries and fly him to hospital."

He added: "Friday was a multi-agency callout to assist colleagues in Tayside Police mountain rescue team with a young lady who had taken a fall in the John Knox Pulpit area of West Lomond.

"MR teams worked with the Scottish Fire and Rescue and Scottish Ambulance services to extract the casualty from the gorge and carry her down the hill to Helimed5 from Glasgow who then flew her to hospital.

"We wish the casualties a speedy recovery.”

Then, on Sunday, July 25, a casualty, walking in the Tillicoultry area, was attended to by an OMRT group including a team doctor after a call by Forth Valley Police Division.

Meanwhile, other team members deployed onto the hill with additional medical equipment and the rescue stretcher in case it was to be required.

After assessment the casualty was assisted by the team from the hill back to their car.

Ross MacIntyre, OMRT secretary, said: “We were called to assist a walker who was feeling unwell at the base of the Law.

“A team doctor assessed the casualty while the rest of the team made the very hot assent with our medical equipment and stretcher.

“Following a period of assessment and rehydration the casualty was able to be walked off the hill accompanied by team members.

“The walkers did exactly the right thing when realising they needed assistance, dialled 999, asked for police and mountain rescue.”

The OMRT are made up of more than 30 highly-trained volunteers who are all mountaineers or various standards, but specialising in SAR.

They operate from a brand new, state of the art rescue base, known in mountain rescue terms as a Post, near Bank Head Farm just outside Fishcross.

In an emergency, always dial 999, ask for police and then mountain rescue.
