A BIKER who overtook at excessive speed on a bend, forcing an oncoming car to swerve into a tree has been fined and banned from the road.

Andrew Boylan lost control of his 1000cc, 120 bhp Triumph Speed Triple 955i on the A91 near Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire.

Horrified other drivers saw him perform a series of passing manoeuvres down a line of traffic before overtaking on double white line on a bend near West Lodge, Tillicoultry.

The driver of an oncoming Vauxhall Corsa said he saw Boylan's motorcycle come round the corner towards him on the wrong side of the road.

Another witness said the front wheel of the motorcycle developed what was described as "a speed wobble".

Prosecutor Michael Maguire told Falkirk Sheriff Court last Tuesday: "The motorcyclist's hands were shaking, the motorcycle was wobbling, and the rider appeared to be losing control."

The Corsa driver swerved left before the bike hit his offside, forcing his car off the road an into a tree.

The 67-year-old's wife sustained a broken thumb and extensive bruising to her chest wall.

Boylan, who ended up lying on the road, sustained "quite significant" injuries and was evacuated from the scene by air ambulance.

The court heard he spent three months in hospital, "and had to learn to walk again".

Boylan, a motor cycle repairer, of Glenrothes, Fife, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.

He also admitted he was not covered by insurance at the time of the crash, on September 10, 2019.

Solicitor Larissa Milligan, defending, said Boylan was delivering a bike at the time of the incident.

She said the £2000 machine had been written off.

In addition to the £1125 fine, Sheriff William Gilchrist disqualified Boylan from driving for 18 months.

He told him: "You accept you were driving dangerously. The consequences could have been more serious than they were.

"They were serious enough, though you seem to have been the one who came off worst."
