IN LESS than a week, live music will return – in full – to Scotland. It is something music fans have been waiting for – something we all need.

This Monday sees the launch of King Tut's Summer Nights: 19 shows throughout August with dozens upon dozens of acts performing.

Four gigs have already sold out, including the opening show with Brooke Combe, Lamaya, Berta Kennedy and Julia.

It will be a special moment for all when the first band plays, but a night that has been a long-time coming for headliner Combe.

A star that emerged in lockdown, Monday's show will be her first-ever live performance. Few first sets could be as impressive as a sold-out gig at Tut's.

The Edinburgh singer is also hoping to unleash some more new material later this year, with 2021 almost certainly a year to remember for the star.

She tells the Weekender: "the response I’ve gotten for the songs has been incredible. Everybody’s loving them and I think they just want to see more music out which is exactly what I’m working on.

"I felt fairly confident in my songs and my songwriting abilities and I’m just glad they have been received as well as they have. All my songs are kind of different so you never know what you’re gonna get...a bit like myself."

She adds: "King Tuts will be the first show. I am absolutely buzzing to share the moment with all of my loved ones.

"In a way, I’m seeing it as a celebration of my achievements over the last year. It’ll be one to remember for sure.

"There’s a lot more tunes to come and I am very excited for everyone to hear them.

"As far as other shows go, you’ll see me all over the place towards the end of the year.

"I’m trying a few different things with songwriting also – so, lots going on."

Brooke's laters track Used to Love Me is released tomorrow, with pre-save available now.

Meanwhile, organisers have been working tirelessly over the last few months to ensure Summer Nights, in association with Coors, can go ahead.

Now in its ninth year, this year’s festival promises to be one of the most special yet – heralding the return of live music to the city.

Dead Pony, Cara Rose and NOVA are all playing through the Month of August, along with Cloud House, Spyres, HYYTS, Kitti, Kapil Seshasayee, Scarlett Randle and swim school.

The likes of vanives, Billy Got Waves, TAAHLIAH, Medicine Cabinet, Check Masses, Lavender Lane, Fauna and the Roly Mo will also headline.

A total of 75 acts will be playing in total, from August 9-31, representing a tremendous return to shows.

Chris Loomes, booker of King Tut's Summer Nights, at DF Concerts and Events, says: “It’s been a long year without live music and we cannot wait to bring some of the best new artists coming out of Scotland to King Tut’s this August.

"The local music scene is so strong with an amazing blend of different genres and cultures creating pioneering and exciting new music.

"We’re so excited to re-open and show once again Scotland is producing some of the best new music in the world.”

Andrew Lawrence, sales and operations director at Molson Coors, adds: “Getting back to enjoying live music and discovering a new band or seeing an old favourite is at the top of every music fans to do list.

"Summer 2021 is shaping up to be one to remember at King Tut’s, and we’re delighted to be supporting Summer Nights with the mountain cold refreshment of Coors.”
