EVENTS are beginning to return as restrictions ease this week, with the Black Devon Wetlands set to host visitors once more.

The RSPB have organised a Family Fun Day at the Alloa site on Saturday, August 21.

The Clacks reserve has been discovered by many new people while exploring their local area and staff are looking forward to welcome as many families as possible to celebrate their Big Wild Summer.

Running from 10am until 3pm, the drop-in event will give visitors the chance to create areas for pollinators, catch creepy crawlies and hunt for underwater dragons and frogs.

Family Fun Days at RSPB Black Devon Wetlands have been a roaring success in the past where adults and young people alike were able to take part in lots of fun activities, all designed to get them stuck in and enjoying nature.

Robyn Shaw, Inner Forth project assistant, said: “We’re really excited to welcome families to RSPB Scotland Black Devon Wetlands for our family fun day, filled with nature-themed activities and – fingers crossed – sunshine.

“We hope to help create wonderful memories for everyone while they explore the cool nature and wildlife on their doorstep.

"We encourage anyone visiting to respect the reserve and other visitors, keeping it a beautiful space for all to enjoy.”

The nature reserve at Black Devon Wetlands is a hidden gem in Alloa and over the past few years, with support from Inner Forth Futures, the RSPB has installed facilities making it enjoyable for people and wildlife, all created and maintained with help from our wonderful RSPB volunteers.

This year, a new wildflower meadow has been creating and staff have also improved the wetland habitat and currently are creating a picnic area with different wildlife homes and a nature trail.

Staff and volunteers will be on site to run the activities for the Family Fun Day which include pond dipping, bug hunting, treasure hunts, wildflower seed ball making, with RSPB Big Wild Summer nature activity packs to take home.

Anyone who would like to bring a picnic is more than welcome to as there are benches and grass to sit on.

There are no indoor facilities on site, so attendees should bring suitable outdoor clothing. No advance booking is required.
