THIS weekend will see a Picnic in the Park in Clackmannan with an opportunity for people to shape the future of the area.

Clackmannan's Community Council and Development Trust are teaming up to host the event on Sunday, August 29, at Alexander Park.

The event will go ahead between 2pm and 4pm with people from the town invited to pack a lunch and enjoy a picnic as well as a fun afternoon.

Both organisations are keen to share plans for the future and are looking forward to putting an event on after some 18 months of coronaviurs.

The community council will share plans with residents to improve the park after £60,000 was donated to the community via Clacks Council by developer Ambassador Homes after the completion of houses at Millburn.

Carol Smith, chair of Clackmannan Community Council, said: “We are looking to get the views from the wider community on what changes they would like to see in the park and share our ideas.

“So, we thought the best way to do this was to have a community event in Alexander Park with family fun and entertainment, after the last 18 months it will be good to see our community back together in the first of what we hope will be many events in future months.”

The development trust will be sharing ideas on the creation of a fresh five-year community action plan.

As part of the work, CDT will be teaming up with the Coalfields Regeneration Trust to host a month-long consultation.

The two organisations will be at a pop-up gazebo at Picnic in the Park and will be consulting on what improvements people would like to see in the town.

Lesley Shaw, CDT community development manager, said: “A community action plan is an important tool that helps bring groups and individuals together to tackle common issues in their community whilst empowerment communities and generating investment.

“We are delighted to be working with CRT and very much encourage locals to participate and share their views and look forward to see what the outcome of this consultation will be.”

Over the past five years, work was ongoing to deliver on all aspects of the 2015-20 action plan with the town centre regeneration projects, the active travel project, Mercat Fayre, heritage trails and the Dog Poo Detectives.

Those heading along on Sunday will also have a chance to enjoy some games, a bike pump track, face painting, stalls and other entertainment.
