MORE Wee County people will be able to become more active in their travel after a development trust has secured project funding.

Clackmannan Development Trust has been successful in securing a Shift grant from Cycling UK and will be offering practical help and assistance.

Over the summer, the trust helped to fix and service more than 60 bikes in the area, but says there is a desire for people to develop their own skills in looking after their own bicycles.

The trust is also looking to give riders the tools and confidence to tackle road cycling as the darker days will slowly draw in.

Training will be available to people in the coming weeks and the trust also sports its own Active Travel Hub just off Kirk Wynd where it will continue to offer its Dr Bike repair service from 3pm to 5pm on Wednesdays for a small donation.

Scott Bamford, active travel co-ordinator at Clackmannan Development Trust, said: “We are proud to be able to continue to offer quality support and training so that people can use their bikes for general transport, work and shopping.

“We have also recently purchased panniers for each of our e-bikes adding to their versatility.

“These are available for hire at flexible rates along with the rest of our bike fleet though the trust.”

As part of upcoming training, the trust will offer four separate standalone bike repair sessions at Hawkhill Community Centre.

Each held between 6.30pm and 8.30pm, the first two on September 28 and 29 will l cover all aspects of roadside repairs including puncture repairs, fixing chains, and adjusting brakes.

All equipment will be provided and will participants' to keep.

Two further sessions on October 7 and 8 will cover general bike maintenance and will also include tools.

People are asked to bring their own bike to work on, the sessions cost £10 and spaces are limited.

The trust will also run two evening cycle events next Thursday, September 28 and on October 5 from 7pm at the CDT portacabin at a cost of £10 per person.
