A PRISONER at Glenochil prison has been given extra jail time after being caught with a SIM card.
Malcolm Newlands was using the card to make unregulated phone calls from the prison.
Newlands, 29, originally from Wishaw, appeared at Alloa Sheriff Court via video link from prison.
He admitted that on June 3 at Glenochil Prison, he was unlawfully in possession of a SIM card.
Defence solicitor Kelly Howe said her client is currently serving a long-term sentence and if not given parole his earliest release date would be 2029.
She said he was using the card to make calls to his father who was seriously ill.
Sheriff Craig Harris jailed Newlands for eight months to run consecutively to his current prison term.
