A CAT has been found dumped in an animal carrier close to a police headquarters in Glasgow.

The male cat had been left without food or water before he was found on French Street on Saturday afternoon by a dog walker.

The pedestrian spotted the cat carrier with the feline inside and called the Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) for assistance.

The charity is urging members of the public to come forward in an effort to trace the owner responsible for abandoning their pet.

Lara Vickery, Scottish SPCA inspector, said: “The cat is male and black and white in colour.

“He is neutered but doesn’t have a microchip and was not wearing a collar when he was found.

“The cat carrier he was found in is white and red. The dog walker who found the cat had passed the same area at 9.30am and the cat was not there at that time.

We believe he was left in the three-hour period between then and 12.30pm when the passer-by called our helpline.

“There was nothing in the cat carrier apart from the cat, so whoever left him did not provide any food or water to tide him over until he was found.

“Although we appreciate the owner may have meant for the cat to be found, this is not the proper way to give up an animal if you can no longer care for them."
