SAUCHIE JUNIORS made history by hosting their first ever Scottish Cup match at Beechwood Park on Saturday as they welcomed Dunipace in the second round tie.

For the first time in the club's history they are taking part in the Scottish Cup and after causing an upset in the first round by beating Fraserburgh 2-1, Sauchie hosted their first ever Scottish Cup home game at Beechwood.

The historic event attracted hundreds of fans, old and new, from across the Wee County and beyond.

Skye Duncan, who's a local fan, said: "It means a lot to the club, it's quite special to them and to the whole place."

Chris Spence is a former Alloa fan but has been a Sauchie Juniors supporter since 2019.

He said: "It's their first ever time in the Scottish Cup and they are in the second round... first home game, you can't beat it.

"The community has come out for it too; everybody is coming out and you couldn't get a better day."

Malcolm Rees and Steven Penman have also only recently began regularly visiting Beechwood and they bring their kids along too.

Malcolm said: "It's massive for the club and the community, the amount of people that have come up [on Saturday] compared to the usual league games...it's brilliant."

John McCallum is another fan who's only just started coming to games this season and can see the team doing well in the competition.

He said: "I've been quite impressed with the set up here and I think there is every chance they could do well as long as they play to their abilities."

While the others have only recently started supporting the team, Davie Sunter and Iain Kinnell have been fans for more than 50 years.

Both came along on the day to witness their side march into "unknown territory" on the day.

Scott Craig, visiting Beechwood for the first time in years, said: "We decided to come up and give our local team some support and see how they get on and hopefully they can get a big team next round."

Scott's wish came true as Sauchie's 2-1 victory secured a third-round tie against cinch League One side Dumbarton, due to be played on Saturday, November 27.
