A DRUNK man was seen slumped over the wheel of his car in Alloa then started driving.

When police tracked down Martin Derrick he was almost five times over the limit.

Derrick, 36, of Harris Court, appeared in the dock at Alloa Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on September 21, on Clackmannan Road, Alloa, he drove having consumed excess alcohol.

His reading was 108 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit being 22 microgrammes.

Depute fiscal Ann Orr said police were contacted at 11.25pm by a member of the public who reported seeing a driver drinking from a bottle of vodka then being slumped over the wheel at Morrison's car park.

The man had then started driving the car towards Alloa town centre.

Officers later found Derrick's vehicle in the McDonald's car park. He was in the driver's seat and the engine was running.

Derrick, representing himself, was asked what he wanted to say about the incident.

"I just feel really bad. I shouldn't have done it," he replied. "I was just being really stupid at the time."

The court heard Derrick had a previous drink-driving conviction from 2012.

Sheriff Richard McFarlane imposed a community payback order with 140 hours of unpaid work and 12 months of supervision.

He also banned Derrick from driving for three years.
